Well, I can say that I at least saw some good snow flurries a couple of times Wednesday, pretty to watch as the snowflakes swirled in the air, but no worry as they did not stick. Maybe we should call it “white rain,” ha, ha.
More scattered snow showers were in the offing today, but as colder air filters southward, that will come to an end, and a good freeze is in the cards for tonight and Friday night. The heaviest snow occurred in the northern half of our state, with the San Juan Islands, the Kitsap Peninsula and Hood Canal area receiving some heavy bands of moisture covering roadways and turning things into a winter wonderland.
Higher locations around Clark County retained much of the snow that fell Wednesday. During clearing periods, one could see the snow level was quite low. The good news is that the winterlike weather will return to more of what we usually expect, with temperatures above freezing and plain old rain, later in the weekend.
I received many e-mails about all the hype over this current episode. Yes, the news media, especially Portland TV stations, went a little overboard, I think. I would hardly call a forecast of 1 to 3 inches of snow here at city levels breaking news and requiring reporters standing on their usual outside perches in front of the camera. Oh well, take it like it is and take a deep breath, and chuckle as I do. I guess it goes along with the territory.
