College roundup: Simmers, Cloyd lead Clark women

Deborah Simmers and Kassilin Cloyd each posted double-doubles as the Clark College women’s basketball team claimed a 79-70 victory Thursday at Tacoma Community College.

Simmers had 31 points and 14 rebounds, and Cloyd had 12 points and 13 rebounds for the Penguins (12-11, 10-5 NWAACC West). Janae Davis added 10 points.

Clark expanded on a 37-35 halftime lead and held off Tacoma late in the game for the win.

“We played a pretty good game,” Clark coach Nancy Boone said. “We minimized our turnovers, which has been a problem for us.”

Clark had 17 turnovers, Boone said, which was about 10 fewer than in its previous two games.

Tacoma 84, Clark 64 — First-place Tacoma got the jump on the Penguins and never let up.

Arman Kalan had 10 points and six rebounds for Clark, and Durham Rosser led the Penguins with 13 points.
