1. Magenta Theater goes ‘Over the River’

Nick surprises his family with the news that he’s been offered a dream job across the country in “Over the River and Through the Woods,” the latest production from Magenta Theater.

3. Curtains rise on latest Portland Center Stage production

Portland Center Stage presents one of the most celebrated literary works to ever emerge from Oregon.

“One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” follows trickster convict Randle Patrick McMurphy, who squares off against the icy Nurse Ratched. McMurphy’s fellow inmates get inspired by McMurphy’s rebellion.

When: Through March 27, with performances at 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays, as well as Sunday, and March 13 and 27; 2 p.m. Sundays, as well as March 5, 19 and 26; and noon Thursdays.

4. Best friends get ‘Hall Pass’

Owen Wilson and Jason Sudeikis play best friends who grow disillusioned with married life in “Hall Pass,” in theaters this weekend.

To remedy that, their wives (Jenna Fischer and Christina Applegate) grant them a one-week hall pass, giving them license to do whatever they please, no questions asked.

They are excited by the prospects but soon realize that their expectations aren’t in line with reality.

“Hall Pass” was written and directed by the Farrelly brothers, who are releasing their first film since 2007’s “Heartbreak Kid.” The brothers are known for using slapstick and toilet humor in their films. Accordingly, “Hall Pass” is rated R.
