KOENIGSSEE, Germany (AP) — German pilot Marion Thees successfully defended her title at the women’s skeleton world championships on Saturday.
Thees set a course record of 52.01 seconds in her fourth run, and finished in a combined time of 3 minutes, 28.51 seconds, 0.88 seconds ahead of 2008 world champion Anja Huber, also from Germany.
Canada’s Mellisa Hollingsworth finished 1.23 seconds behind Thees to take the bronze, her first worlds medal since a silver in the first women’s skeleton worlds in 2000.
