What’s the buzz from the world of sports? Here are some items that will have people talking:

1

He never has been and never will be an All-Star, but in his own way Joel Przybilla played a role in the revival of the Trail Blazers.

Following the 2005-06 season, with the Blazers coming off a 21-61 record that was the worst in the league, Przybilla was a free agent and agreed to re-sign with Portland. It was a generous contract, sure, but Przybilla’s commitment to the club also was symbolic, signalling that the franchise was headed in the right direction.

Five years later, Talking Points wishes Przybilla well in the wake of the trade that has sent him to Charlotte.

Now that high school basketball teams in Washington are down to the “state” tournament, one glaring weakness is apparent in the new format.

Four-team tournaments are taking place this weekend, with two teams from each site advancing to the final eight at a central location. The problem is that the format allows for the possibility that a team will lose one game and still advance to the quarterfinals.

Frankly, Talking Points thinks that’s no way to run a “state” tournament, when every game should be an elimination game.
