CAMAS — East county schoolchildren got a boost from the Soroptimist International of Camas-Washougal. The Soroptimists held a dinner and silent auction and raised more than $8,000 for the Weekend Backpack Program. The program sends backpacks of food home with needy students on the weekends. Community supporters as well as club members helped make the evening a great success.
East County Family Resource Center staff member Rene Law, who works with the schools, also received 100 jars of peanut butter and other packaged foods, and a donated gift card to be used to purchase more of these needed items.
