South Carolina State defeats Florida A&M 65-53

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Darnell Porter scored 18 points to lead South Carolina State over Florida A&M 65-53 Monday night.

Porter was 6 of 9 from the field and 4 of 4 from the free-throw line as the Bulldogs (9-20, 5-11 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) won for the third time in their last four games.

Presano Bell added 10 points for South Carolina State, which shot 43.3 percent from the field and made 9 of 11 free throws.

The Rattlers (12-18, 7-8) shot 33.3 percent from the field (18 of 54) and were just 11 of 23 from the free-throw line.

Both teams struggled from 3-point range as South Carolina State made 26.7 percent of its shots and Florida A&M 28.6 percent. But the Rattlers attempted six more (6 of 21) than the Bulldogs (4 of 15).

South Carolina State turned those misses into a 42-35 rebounding advantage.

Florida A&M was led by Avery Moore with 19 points and Amin Stevens with 12.
