Police and medics rushed to Union High School on Monday morning after a special education student reportedly cut his hand with a knife.

The incident was reported about 8:45 a.m. by a school resource officer, who called for backup.

The student was in a “time out room” the 500 Building at the campus, 6201 N.W. Friberg-Strunk St.

According to radio traffic monitored at The Columbian, the student briefly threatened to harm himself and then put the knife down, but suffered a superficial cut on his hand.

The boy grabbed a knife from the kitchen area and threatened to harm no one except himself, said Carol Fenstermacher, a spokeswoman for Evergreen Public Schools.

The incident didn’t affect other school business and there was no lockdown, Fenstermacher said.
