AUBURN, Wash. (AP) — A King County sheriff’s spokesman says only animal bones were found in a search Saturday of the where the skull of woman believed to be a Green River Killer victim was last month.

Earlier reports said possible remains had been found in the steep ravine in Auburn where the skill of the skull of Rebecca “Becky” Marrero was found Dec. 21. She had not been seen since 1982 and has long been considered a likely victim of Green River Killer Gary Ridgway.

However, Sgt. John Urquhart says none of the bones appear to be human. He says there currently are no plans to return to the site.

Ridgway pleaded guilty in 2003 to murdering 48 women starting in the early 1980s. In a deal to spare him the death penalty, he agreed to lead investigators to remains of his victims.
