Toocleverforwords, King Congie win at Calder

MIAMI (AP) — Toocleverforwords beat Joanie’s Catch by a length Saturday to win the $100,000 Grade 3 Stage Door Betty Handicap for fillies and mares at Calder.

In the co-featured $100,000 Tropical Park Derby for newly turned 3 year olds, King Congie edged Private Prize by half length with favored Swift Warrior third.

Ridden by Luis Seaz, Toocleverforwords covered the 1 1-16 miles in 1:47 1-5 and paid $8.80, $4.80 and $3.80. The 5-year old daughter of Sherry Elizabeth has won three races in a row, two of them stakes. She has earned $201,3o8 in 15 starts.

King Congie, ridden by Javier Castellano, covered 1 1-8 miles on grass in 1:49 2-5 and paid $9.00, $4.80 and $3.00. The son of Silver, owned by West Point Thoroughbreds, increased his career earnings to $89,290.
