Haley Smith scored 17 points, and Janae Davis added 12 rebounds to lead the Clark College women’s basketball team to a 62-42 win at Centralia in the NWAACC West Division opener for both teams.

“We played a good game,” Clark coach Nancy Boone said. “The big thing was that we took care of the ball. We only committed seven turnovers.”

Clark also played solid defense, holding Centralia to 14 percent shooting (10 of 70) from the field.

Debbie Summers added 13 points for Clark (3-6, 1-0 NWAACC), which plays at home against Grays Harbor on Wednesday.

Centralia men 80, Clark 65 — The Penguins couldn’t overcome turnovers and foul trouble in the loss at Centralia in the NWAACC West Division opener for both teams.

Dan Anderson had 13 points, and Arman Kalan and Stephon Hopkins each had 10 for Clark (6-4, 0-1 NWAACC).

Centralia outrebounded Clark 51-30 and made 20 of 27 free throws.

“We had a number of turnovers early and foul trouble, so our normal rotation was off and that made our execution off,” Clark coach Mike Arnold said. “Give (Centralia) credit, they played well.”
