Haley hoping Chiefs will emulate 2008 Cardinals

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The signs are all there if coach Todd Haley wants to believe history is repeating itself.

His playoff-bound Kansas City Chiefs (10-6) seem in many ways to be playing out the same scenario that landed the Arizona Cardinals in the 2008 Super Bowl.

With Haley serving as offensive coordinator, the Cardinals finished 9-7 that season and reeled off three straight playoff upsets. They reached the Super Bowl in Ken Whisenhunt’s second season as coach.

Now Haley is in his second season with the Chiefs, who surprised just about everyone by winning the AFC West. They will host the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.

Like the ’08 Cardinals, the Chiefs have no recent playoff success. And like the Cardinals of that season, they’re going into the postseason with fresh memories of a loss — a 31-10 pounding by Oakland.
