KEARNY, N.J. (AP) — A Washington state man who allegedly was driving drunk faces several charges after authorities say he struck a police car and fought with officers.
Officials say officer Mike Ryan was conducting a traffic stop involving another motorist when a vehicle driven by 27-year-old Francisco Silva struck his cruiser around 8 a.m. Saturday.
Silva then drove off as Ryan ran to his car, and Silva’s vehicle was stopped after a brief pursuit. Silva then allegedly became combative when Ryan and another officer tried to detain him, but he was soon subdued.
Silva was charged with drunken driving, aggravated assault on a police officer, assault by automobile and leaving the scene of an accident. He was treated at a hospital for minor injuries sustained in the incident.
