PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A former University of Oregon wrestler turned professional fighter has pleaded guilty to a federal money laundering charge in a real estate kickback case involving a home sale in 2006.
The Oregonian reports that 33-year-old Chael Sonnen of Portland now faces a recommended sentence of two years on probation.
Sonnen got a title shot in August against Ultimate Fighting Championship middleweight champ Anderson Silva but lost after dominating the first five rounds of the match.
Weeks before that fight, Sonnen pulled out as a candidate for Oregon House District 37 after winning the Republican primary.
