Joshua Hall had 30 points and 10 rebounds, and Justin Schauer added 22 points and seven rebounds as the Hockinson boys basketball team got its first win over Mark Morris in school history, beating the Monarchs 73-66 in Longview on Tuesday.

“Our school has only been open for seven years, but this is still a big win,” Hockinson coach Matt Gruhler said. “It’s the first league loss for Mark Morris since they moved to 2A.”

Hockinson, which hadn’t played a game since Dec. 16, spent the past couple of weeks getting ready for the Monarchs.

“Basically, we played solid defensive,” Gruhler said. “We worked on our defense over the break, because Mark Morris does things on offense that other teams in our league do. And we just made it tough on them.”

Hockinson has won three of its past four game games after starting the season 1-4.

“This was our best performance of the year,” Gruhler said. “We played hard for 32 minutes, and we had some kids step up and knock down some big shots, which is something we haven’t done a lot this year.”
