VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) — Federal prosecutors have filed charges against three Vancouver, Wash., residents accused of stealing packages from southwest Washington porches in the month before Christmas.

The U.S. attorney’s office says they also used tools to pry open locked security mailboxes.

Charged with theft or receipt of stolen mail are 34-year-old Jason May, 34-year-old Jolynn May and 30-year-old Mychal Lecouris. Jolynn May and Lecouris made their first appearance Thursday in federal court in Tacoma. Jason May remained in the Clark County Jail.

The U.S. attorney’s office says alert neighbors described the car seen at locations where packages were stolen — and one even provided a license plate number.

When authorities confronted the trio on Christmas Eve, prosecutors say they found new merchandise and toys that appeared to have been stolen from various addresses.
