Boat show opens Wednesday

PORTLAND — Hundreds of fishing boats, house boats, sailboats and personal watercraft will be on display starting Wednesday at the 51st annual Portland Boat Show at the Expo Center.

Admission costs $10. Discount coupons are available online at www.otshows.com. Children age 12 and younger are admitted free.

The show continues for five days through Jan. 16.

Parking at the Expo Center costs $8, with a $1 discount for carpools of three or more.

The Fort Vancouver Power Squadron will be giving fire suppression instruction at its booth.

Television reporter Grant McOmie of KGW will tell about water-based adventures in Oregon. His seminars will be 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday through Jan. 14 and noon to 2 p.m. Jan. 15

Show hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily, except 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Jan. 16, a Sunday.

Boater safety class on Jan. 22

A boater safety class will begin at 8:30 a.m. Jan. 22 at the Clark County Public Works Maintenance and Operations office, 4700 N.E. 78th St.

The class costs $10 and is offered by Flotilla No. 78 of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary along with the Clark County Marine Patrol. The course continues until 4:30 p.m. and is designed to allow participants to earn their state boater safety card.

Oregon panel to get fish updates

SALEM — The Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission will meet beginning at 8 a.m. Friday at the Department of Fish and Wildlife office, 3406 Cherry Ave. N.E.

The commission will get an update on Columbia River spring and summer chinook issues, along with sturgeon issues, but it not scheduled to make any regulatory decisions for 2011 until it meets Feb. 4, also in Salem.

Washington sport show Jan. 26-30

PUYALLUP — The 24th annual Washington Sportsmen’s Show will be Jan. 26 through 30 at the Western Washington Fairgrounds, 110 Ninth Ave. S.W.

The show features displays by a wide variety of hunting and fishing equipment manufacturers and retailers plus guides and outfitters. Seminars on various aspects of Northwest hunting and fishing skills will be offered.

Show hours will be noon to 8 p.m. Jan. 26-28, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Jan. 29 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Jan. 30.

Admission is $12 for adults or $10 with a midweek coupon available at www.otshows.com. The cost for juniors ages 6 to 16 is $5.
