SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — The father of an 8-year-old boy has described for a jury the moments after his son accidentally shot himself to death with an Uzi submachine gun at a 2008 gun fair in Massachusetts.

Dr. Charles Bizilj (buh-SEEL’), of Ashford, Conn., testified Thursday that he was videotaping his son Christopher firing the gun when he disappeared from the viewfinder.

Bizilj said he then saw Christopher on the ground and ran to him. He said his son’s eyes were open, but he did not respond. When he reached to pick him up, Bizilj said he saw part of the boy’s skull was missing.

The testimony came in the manslaughter trial of former Pelham, Mass., police Chief Edward Fleury, whose company co-sponsored the gun fair

Some shaken family members left the courtroom during the testimony.
