A woman spent about 30 minutes with her leg trapped beneath her van Thursday morning following a rollover crash near the intersection of Northeast Fourth Plain Road and Vancouver Mall Drive.

The two-vehicle crash was reported at 10:44 a.m. Thursday, said police spokeswoman Kim Kapp.

Firefighters used heavy extrication tools to tear the roof off a van involved in the crash and gain access to the woman, said Kevin Stromberg, a spokesman with the Vancouver Fire Department.

The woman, Tracy D. Smith, 44, of Vancouver, was freed from her vehicle and loaded onto a stretcher at about 11:20 a.m.

She was taken to Southwest Washington Medical Center, police said.

On Thursday evening she was listed in satisfactory condition, a nursing supervisor said.

A man also suffered injuries in the crash and was taken to a hospital. His name was not immediately available. Police said he suffered a sore leg and upper back pain.

The cause of the collision was not immediately clear. Traffic was congested and police officers helped to control it as crews worked to free Smith.

The Vancouver Police Department Traffic Unit is investigating.
