Longwood snaps South Dakota win streak 85-82

FARMVILLE, Va. (AP) — Durann Neil hit a 3-pointer with 4 seconds left as Longwood defeated South Dakota 85-82 Thursday night, ending the Coyotes’ five-game winning streak.

Aaron Mitchell had 23 points for the Lancers (6-13), who also got 14 points and 15 rebounds from Antwan Carter.

Charlie Westbrook, who had 14 points, gave South Dakota a 54-48 lead when he hit a jumper with 14:56 left. But the Lancers went on a 28-14 run over the next eight minutes to lead 76-68.

South Dakota, which was led by Jake Thomas’ 28 points, rallied to tie twice. The final tie came on a layup by Louie Krogman, who had 11 points, with 25 seconds left.

Longwood called time and worked the ball to Neil for his game-winning shot. Neil had eight points.

South Dakota failed to get off a tying attempt, as Longwood’s Martiz Washington stole the ball from Thomas at the end.
