TACOMA, Wash. (AP) — A 36-year-old Puyallup-area woman whose 2008 conviction for abusing her grandson was overturned on appeal has pleaded guilty to assaulting the boy.

Loni Venegas was sentenced to 35 months in prison Thursday, in exchange for pleading guilty to second-degree child assault.

Pierce County prosecutors say she beat her 12-year-old grandson, cut his flesh with a fork and poured vinegar into his wounds. The boy, now 16, was in court for the sentencing.

A jury convicted Venegas of child assault in 2008 and she was sentenced to 14 years in prison, but an appeals court sent the case back for trial.
