Indiana State opens fast, tops Northern Iowa 70-45

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) — Steve McWhorter scored 15 points as balanced Indiana State defeated Northern Iowa 70-45 on Friday night.

Jordan Printy added 11 points for the Sycamores (8-7, 3-1 Missouri Valley), whose 11-game home winning streak is their longest since a 22-gamer from 1999-2001. Jake Odum and Myles Walker scored 10 points apiece, and Odum had seven assists and three steals.

Anthony James scored 15 points, including three 3-pointers, to pace the Panthers (10-6, 1-3).

Shooting percentages contrasted sharply. Indiana State was at 52.9 percent (27 of 51) and 60.0 percent (12 of 20) from 3-point range. Northern Iowa’s numbers were 23.9 percent (11 of 46) and 26.1 percent (6 of 23).

After a 2-2 tie, Indiana State ran off 16 points in a row and led 18-2 with 12:09 left in the first half. The lead never dipped below 11 thereafter and topped out at 31 in the second half.
