RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — Police say Botafogo midfielder Somalia made up a story about being abducted on his way to practice because he was late and wanted to avoid a fine.
Rio de Janeiro Police Chief Juliana Domingues said footage from a video camera in Somalia’s building showed him entering around 4 a.m. Wednesday and leaving about five hours later.
Somalia had told police he was kidnapped at 7:15 a.m. and held for two hours.
The club said players can have up to 40 percent of their pay docked for tardiness.
