Alabama State rallies for 68-62 victory

PINE BLUFF, Ark. (AP) — Alabama State overcame 36 points from Savalace Townsend and denied Arkansas-Pine Bluff its first win of the season, defeating the Golden Hurricanes 68-62 in overtime Saturday night.

Pine Bluff (0-14, 0-2 Southwestern) led nearly the entire game before Shareif Adamu hit a pair of free throws with 1:18 remaining in regulation to tie the game 49-49. Lavoris Weathers hit 1 of 2 free throws with 26 seconds left to put Pine Bluff up by one, but Tramaine Butler hit the first of two free throws with 6 seconds remaining to send it into overtime.

Alabama State (5-11, 2-1) got 3-pointers from Dwayne Harvey and Butler in overtime to take a 58-51 lead with 3:10 left, then held off the Lions from there.

Butler had 15 points for the Hornets, while Adamu and Kaylim Noel had 13 each.

Ricky Parks added 10 points for Pine Bluff, which led by as many as 17 points in the first half.
