Oakland, Mich., crushes Western Illinois 79-50

ROCHESTER, Mich. (AP) — Drew Valentine, Keith Benson and Reggie Hamilton posted double-doubles as Oakland, Mich., whipped Western Illinois 79-50 on Saturday night.

Valentine had 17 points and 14 rebounds, Benson had 13 of each and Hamilton scored 10 points with 10 assists for the Golden Grizzlies (11-8, 6-0), who took over sole possession of first place in the Summit League.

Will Hudson was Oakland’s leading scorer with 18 points. Travis Bader had 15, all on 3-pointers. Benson added five blocks.

Kaimarr Price scored a career-high 17 points to lead the Leathernecks (6-9, 1-4). Brandon Smith added a career-best 12.

Price scored Western Illinois’ first four baskets and put his team ahead 8-7 before the Golden Grizzlies began to roll. Oakland led 42-18 at halftime, then opened the second half with a 9-0 run. The lead peaked at 35 three times late in the game.

Oakland has won 14 straight league games.
