CARSON, Calif. (AP) — U.S. women’s national team backup goalkeeper Jill Loyden will be sidelined six to eight weeks because of a broken left hand.

Loyden was hurt in training Sunday and may need surgery to insert a pin, the U.S. Soccer Federation said Tuesday. She broke the third metacarpal while reaching for a shot.

Nicole Barnhart was the U.S. starter during World Cup qualifying while Hope Solo recovered from shoulder surgery. Loyden has one international appearance, against China last Oct. 2.

Ashlyn Harris and Alyssa Naeher also are training with the U.S. squad, though neither has any experience playing for the senior team. The Americans are preparing for their World Cup opener against North Korea on June 28.
