TACOMA, Wash. (AP) — Two baby tigers helped the Point Defiance Zoo in Tacoma attract record attendance in 2010.
The News Tribune of Tacoma reports the zoo had 680,000 visitors last year, including visits to its Zoolights holiday display.
That’s 56,000 thousand more visitors than the year before, despite the slow economy.
Zoo Deputy Director John Houck says the zoo benefited from relatively good weather, families looking for affordable entertainment close to home and baby tigers.
Sumatran tiger cubs Bima and Mali were born in May. Mali nearly died of an intestinal blockage in November but has recovered.
