Latest forecast: Less moisture, warmer temps today

A winter weather advisory remains in effect for the Vancouver metro area today, but the National Weather Service says less moisture is expected than what had earlier been predicted.

What that translates to is some light snow and freezing rain this afternoon and tonight in the metro area, changing to all rain by early Wednesday.

Snow accumulations will range from just a trace to perhaps an inch in pockets, with up to a tenth of an inch of freezing rain.

By Wednesday, the temperature will be 10 degrees warmer than today, and warmer rain is expected the rest of the week.

The forecast:

This Afternoon: A chance of snow. Cloudy, with a high near 34. East southeast wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Tonight: Snow and freezing rain before 10pm, then rain, snow, and freezing rain between 10pm and 1am, then rain after 1am. Snow level rising to 3500 feet after midnight. Temperature rising to around 40 by 5am. Light wind becoming south southwest between 10 and 13 mph. Winds could gust as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New ice accumulation of less than a 0.1 of an inch possible. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Wednesday: Rain. High near 46. South southwest wind around 11 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%.

Wednesday Night: Rain. Low around 42. South wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%.

Thursday: Rain. High near 50. South southwest wind between 3 and 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%.

Thursday Night: Rain likely. Cloudy, with a low around 44. Chance of precipitation is 70%.

Friday: Rain likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 52. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
