ENSCHEDE, Netherlands (AP) — U.S. defender Oguchi Onyewu has signed with Dutch league champion FC Twente on loan from AC Milan for the remainder of the season.

Tuesday’s move reunites the 28-year-old Onyewu with Michel Preud’homme, his former coach at Belgian club Standard Liege.

Onyewu made his international debut for the United States in 2004 and played at the World Cup in 2006 and last year in South Africa.

After missing most of last season with an injury, Onyewu agreed to play for free for a year in return for a contract extension with Milan until 2013, but he has failed to break into the first team this season.
