PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A 21-year-old Gresham man who attacked a stranger because he didn’t like his Mohawk hairstyle was sentenced Tuesday in Portland to about four years in prison.

Brandon Sanchez apologized in Multnomah County Circuit Court to 21-year-old Mark Bryant and said the only reason for the attack was his own stupidity.

The Oregonian reports investigators believed Sanchez was drunk when Bryant arrived at a party last August with his haired gelled into a Mohawk. Witnesses say Sanchez said Bryant’s hair looked gay.

Sanchez pushed him off a retaining wall and Bryant suffered brain injuries that put him in a coma for 22 days. He’s still trying to recover.

In a deal with prosecutors, Sanchez pleaded guilty last week to third-degree assault.
