SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — A 10-year-old military dog and cancer survivor based at Fairchild Air Force Base is making his fourth deployment oversees.

The Spokesman-Review reports the dog named Lucky, a Belgian Malinois, is graying around the muzzle but still healthy despite operations in 2005 and last year to remove tumors from his legs.

Lucky and his handler, Staff Sgt. Chris Fall, were scheduled to depart Friday for a base in Kyrgyzstan, an entry point for operations in Afghanistan.

Lucky previously searched for bombs and explosives in Iraq and Afghanistan and survived a roadside bomb attack.
