Saint Mary’s gets 9th straight win, 71-57

MORAGA, Calif. (AP) — Mickey McConnell scored 19 points as Saint Mary’s extended its winning streak to nine games with a 71-57 victory over San Francisco on Thursday.

Rob Jones added 11 points and 10 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season for Saint Mary’s (15-2, 3-0 West Coast), and Matthew Dellavedova had 13 points.

Michael Williams had 17 points for San Francisco (7-10, 1-1), which had won three straight. The Dons have not beaten the Gaels in nearly five years.

McConnell, named a finalist for the Bob Cousy Award given to the nation’s top point guard, went 7 of 14 from the floor and had four assists while helping the Gaels match their 15-2 start from last season.

McConnell and Dellavedova combined to go 7 for 13 from beyond the arc, while Saint Mary’s was 9 of 22 as a team. The Gaels came into the game averaging 9.9 3-pointers, second-most in the country among Division I teams.
