Help needed at Steigerwald Lake

WASHOUGAL — Volunteers are need Saturdays and Sundays through March to plant trees and shrubs at Steigerwald Lake National Wildlife Refuge.

Workers will meet at 9 a.m. at the Gibbons Creek trailhead just south of state Highway 14 at milepost 18.

The plantings are organized by Columbia Gorge Refuge Stewards.

Volunteers need waterproof footware, gloves, water and a snack.

Outdoor skills class slated

An outdoor winter skills class will be offered Feb. 5 by the Mount St. Helens Institute.

Registration is available online at www.mshinstitute.org.

The non-profit organization will offer a variety of field classes this year, although the next class is not until May 21. Youth younger than age 14 must be accompanied by an adult.
