Western Carolina defeats Elon 70-63

CULLOWHEE, N.C. (AP) — Mike Williams scored 19 points and Western Carolina defeated Elon 70-63 on Thursday night.

The Catamounts (7-10, 3-2 Southern Conference) led 32-35 at halftime and by as many as nine points in the second half. Trey Sumler added 18 points for his sixth straight game in double figures and Harouna Mutombo had 10 for Western Carolina, which has won three straight games since snapping a six-game losing streak.

The Catamounts scored 17 points off 18 Elon turnovers and had 12 second-chance points.

Before the winning streak, Western Carolina had averaged 66.8 points per game but has averaged 77 points in the past three.

Drew Spradlin scored 19 points and Lucas Troutman added 10 for the Phoenix (8-9, 2-4), who had a two game winning streak snapped. Elon also had a four-game road winning streak broken.
