SEATTLE (AP) — As expected, Washington running back Chris Polk will return to the Huskies for his junior season.
In a statement released by the school on Friday afternoon, Polk says he thinks it will be better for him to stay at Washington for another season. Polk just finished his redshirt sophomore year with the Huskies, meaning he could have declared early for the NFL draft.
Polk is coming off the second-best season in Washington history, running for 1,415 yards. He capped his season with a career-high 284 yards — second most in school history — in the Apple Cup against Washington State, then ran for 177 yards in the Huskies’ Holiday Bowl upset of Nebraska.
Polk rushed for 1,146 yards as a freshman, becoming the first Washington freshman to top 1,000 yards.
