Despite the violence in Tucson, Ariz., freshman U.S. Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Camas, plans two town hall meetings during her first visit to Southwest Washington after taking office. It’s scheduled to start late this month.

At least one town hall will be in Clark County, said Casey Bowman, her Washington, D.C., spokesman.

Details were not available Friday.

He said Herrera Beutler would rely on local law enforcement officials to determine the appropriate levels security for both events.

“She considers direct meetings with the public to be among her most important duties,” Bowman said.

“The actions of one deranged individual in Tucson won’t change that,” he said.
