Vancouver — After several years at a Portland brew pub, the monthly Volcano Views and Brews event will move across the Columbia River on Tuesday.

U.S. Geological Survey research scientist Tom Pierson will present “What Buried Chaitén Volcano? The Mystery of a Volcanic Eruption” at Bella’s Courtyard in the Academy, 400 E. Evergreen Blvd., in Vancouver. The presentation begins at 6:30 p.m. Happy hour starts at 5 p.m. Admission is free.

Jeanne Bennett, the institute’s executive director, said many of the attendees had been coming from Southwest Washington, and the Vancouver restaurant does not require a $5 cover charge.

The Chaitén eruption buried a town in Chile in 2008.
