Chattanooga hangs on to beat Charleston 91-89

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) — Omar Wattad scored 27 points to lead hot-shooting Chattanooga over Charleston 91-89 in Southern Conference play on Monday night.

The Mocs (13-5, 7-0) were 18 for 30 from the floor (60 percent) in the first half, including 7 of 11 from 3-point range (63.6 percent) as they took a 53-46 lead into halftime.

Wattad went 4 for 6 from beyond the arc and scored 19 points in the opening half. DeAntre Jefferson scored 13 of his 15 points in the first half for Chattanooga.

Ricky Taylor scored 16 points and Keegan Bell added 12 points and eight rebounds for the Mocs, who finished 31 of 58 from the field (53.4 percent).

The Cougars (10-8, 5-1) led by as many as 12, 33-21, in the first half and by one, 76-75, with 6:38 left.

Andrew Goudelock led Charleston with 26 points, Willis Hall added 15 and Donovan Monroe and Jeremy Simmons 14 apiece. Simmons had 12 rebounds.
