Fairleigh Dickinson defeats Houston Baptist 75-64

HACKENSACK, N.J. (AP) — John Galvin and Kamil Svrdlik grabbed 16 rebounds each as Fairleigh Dickinson defeated Houston Baptist 75-64 on Monday night.

The Knights (4-12) outrebounded the Huskies 52-31, scoring 17 points off second chances.

The diligence on the boards helped overcome 19 turnovers as Fairleigh Dickinson snapped a nine-game losing streak.

Briahn Smith scored 18 points, Mike Scott 14, Svrdlik 13 and Galvin 11 for the Knights, who shot 43.4 percent from the field (23 of 53).

Leading 25-24 with 6:21 left in the first half, the Knights blew it open with 13 straight points. Galvin capped the spurt on a layup with 3:46 to go until halftime.

Andrew Gonzalez, the Great West Conference’s scoring leader (21.3 points per game), led the Huskies (1-16) with 15 points. Terry Bembry added 14 points and Michael Moss 10 for Houston Baptist, which shot 35.3 percent from the field (24 of 68).
