Vancouver-based nLight Corp. is among 24 U.S. companies that will send representatives next month on a business development mission to India. The mission will be headed by U.S. Commerce Secretary and former Washington governor Gary Locke.

The delegation will visit New Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore to explore export opportunities in India’s expanding industrial sectors. FLIR Systems Inc. of Wilsonville, Ore., which makes infrared cameras and systems, and NuScale Power Inc., a Corvallis, Ore.-based company that is working to commercialize a small-scale nuclear reactor, will also be represented on the trip.

NLight manufactures high-power semiconductor lasers and specialty optical fibers for industrial, medical, defense and consumer industries. “Laser applications continue to grow in India and I am excited to join Secretary Locke on this important trip as we expand in India,” said Scott Keeney, nLight CEO.

U.S. exports to India doubled between 2005 and 2009 and increased 17 percent in 2010 — faster than any other major U.S. trading partner.
