Cal State-Fullerton stops Long Beach State 89-87

FULLERTON, Calif. (AP) — Jer’Vaughn Johnson finished with 22 points and 13 rebounds and every Cal State-Fullerton starter scored in double figures in an 89-87 victory over Long Beach State on Wednesday night.

Devon Peltier added 18 points and Andre Hardy had 16 for the Titans (7-12, 3-4 Big West), who came close to blowing a 10-point lead in the final minute.

Casper Ware scored 27 points for the 49ers (11-9, 6-1), who had their six-game winning streak snapped. T.J. Robinson had 17 points and 10 rebounds, Greg Plater added 19 points and Larry Anderson 18.

After three lead changes in the first 61 seconds of the second half, Fullerton went ahead 39-38 on Hardy’s layup with 18:43 to play and never trailed again.

The Titans pushed their advantage to 84-74 with 45 seconds left then held off a late charge by the 49ers.

This was the 100th meeting between the schools.
