RENTON, Wash. (AP) — Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll closed his first season with a wide-ranging news conference, saying re-signing quarterback Matt Hasselbeck was the Seahawks’ “top priority” heading into the offseason.

Carroll spoke for nearly 40 minutes on Wednesday morning. He said that bringing Hasselbeck back for an 11th season with the Seahawks was vitally important to building on this year’s NFC West title.

Carroll said that the firing of offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates was due to a “philosophical issue” and a move into a different direction. He said the hiring of Tom Cable as an assistant head coach in charge of the offensive line will be a return to his philosophy that “got sidetracked,” during the season.

Carroll also confirmed that Darrell Bevell was interviewing for the offensive coordinator position.
