Rhode Island holds off Saint Joseph’s 64-59

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Delroy James scored 19 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to help Rhode Island hold off Saint Joseph’s 64-59 on Wednesday night.

The Rams (12-6, 3-1 Atlantic 10 Conference) led 30-21 with 5:33 left in the opening half, but were outscored 16-5 the rest of the half en route to a 37-35 halftime deficit.

James scored 10 of Rhode Island’s first 12 points in the second half, capping a 12-6 run with a 3-pointer to give the Rams a 47-43 lead with 14:29 remaining.

Rhode Island led by at least four the rest of the way.

Akeem Richmond scored 13 points and Marquis Jones added 12 for the Rams, who shot just 36.4 percent from the floor (24 of 66), including 6 of 23 from 3-point range (26.1 percent).

Carl Jones led the Hawks (5-13, 0-5) with 25 points. Idris Hilliard added 13 points and 10 rebounds and C.J. Aiken scored 10 for Saint Joseph’s, which has lost five straight.
