CAMAS — The Camas robotics team “Future Imagineers” tied for first place at the Intel Oregon FIRST LEGO League Championship Tournament in Hillsboro, Ore.

The Champion’s Award is the most prestigious award of the competition and goes to the team that is strongest in robot design, robot performance, the research project, and teamwork. Seamus McAvoy, a member of the team, said he “learned how to deal with conflicts so nobody gets upset.”

The team, with the help of a Portland prosthetics technician, designed and constructed a prosthetic arm for a woman so she could swim. Bruce Schafer, director of industry affairs for Oregon University Systems, said he expects competitors to be tomorrow’s engineers and innovators. Other members of the team are Bryce Croucher, Jonah Runde, Tyler Croucher and Yuness Badiei.
