PENDLETON, Ore. (AP) — An Oregon couple who lost some luggage in France have gotten it back, thanks to a Paris cab driver.

The East Oregonian reports that Richard and Marilyn Smiley of Pendleton traveled to France in late November, and one of the first things Marilyn did was leave her daypack in a taxi.

Richard Smiley is a plant pathologist at the Oregon State University Columbia Basin agricultural research center and was in Paris for an international pest control conference.

But the couple have a friend who lives in Paris, and she volunteered to call the taxi lost and found.

About a week after the Smileys got home, the cab driver’s daughter called them to say her father found the bag and, with the help of some friends, shipped it back to Oregon.
