The Prairie boys basketball team erased a 16-point, second-half deficit to beat Columbia River 58-57 in a Class 3A Greater St. Helens League game Thursday.

Grant Sitton led four Prairie players in double figures. He scored 16 points, and had two of Prairie’s four 3-pointers in the key stretch of the game.

The Falcons outscored the Chieftains 25-9 in the third period to close in, then took the lead for good midway through the final quarter.

Keaton Jackson added 14 points, Cody Potter had 12, and Macauley Brown scored 10 for Prairie.

Columbia River struggled at the free throw line in the final quarter, making 5 of 10.

Gunnar Wahl, who made a 3-pointer with four seconds left to draw River to within a point, led the Chieftains with 18 points. Gaston Corl added 12 points.

“We’re very disappointed,” River coach David Long said. “We were in control of the basketball game, but we had a tough third quarter. Then the team that made the clutch shots won. That’s usually how it goes.”
