ITHACA, N.Y. (AP) — Brian Barbour scored 23 points and Columbia held on to beat Cornell 70-66 on Saturday.
Both teams exchanged leads throughout the second half, as Cornell took a 63-61 lead on Chris Wroblewski’s basket with 2:20 left in the second half. But the Lions (11-5, 2-0 Ivy League) pulled ahead with eight straight points, capped by Barbour’s two free throws with 10 seconds left to claim a six-point advantage.
Meiko Lyles, who fouled out, finished with 10 points for the Lions, who won their fourth in a row and eighth of their last nine games.
Columbia, which beat the two-time Ivy League defending champion Big Red (4-12, 0-2) for the second time this season, won despite having 16 turnovers to Cornell’s 11. The Lions outrebounded Cornell 38-32.
Wroblewski and Aaron Osgood each scored 16 points for the struggling Big Red. Errick Peck had 10 points.
