Coppin State defeats Maryland-Eastern Shore 77-68

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. (AP) — Tony Gallo scored 26 points to help Coppin State defeat Maryland-Eastern Shore 77-68 on Saturday.

The Eagles overcame a poor shooting effort to win their second game in a row. Gallo made 8 of 14 field goal attempts while the rest of the team went 16 for 50. The Eagles were 24 of 64 (37.5 percent) for the game.

Coppin State trailed 34-33 at halftime and by as many as nine points in the second half before turning things around. Trailing 62-61 with 4:22 remaining, the Eagles went on a 9-0 run to take control at 70-62 with 2:25 to play. The Eagles went 6 for 6 from the free-throw line in the final 1:25 to seal the win.

Akeem Ellis added 17 points and Ceslovas Kucinskas had 11 for the Eagles (8-9, 3-2 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference).

Hilary Haley posted a double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds for the Hawks (4-14, 1-4), who have lost five of their past six games.
