SAN DIEGO (AP) — Chris Gabriel scored a career-high 16 points as San Diego snapped a six-game losing skid with a 76-65 win over Cal State Bakersfield on Saturday night.

Gabriel was 6 of 8 from the floor as the Toreros shot a school-record 69 percent from the field, including 78.3 percent (18 of 23) in the second half when they led by as many as 20 points.

San Diego (4-16) defeated a Division I opponent for only the second time this season. The Toreros’ only other Division I win came right before the start of the losing streak, a 67-64 win over Utah on Christmas.

Cal State Bakersfield (8-11), an independent school, lost its sixth in a row. Donavan Bragg led the Roadrunners with 16 points and Stephon Carter added 15.

Darian Norris scored 12 points and Matt Dorr added 11 for San Diego, which outrebounded an opponent for the first time in 10 games.
