OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (AP) — The Kansas City Royals and first baseman Billy Butler have agreed to a new four-year contract.
The 24-year-old Butler was the Royals’ player of the year the past two seasons and was the team’s only remaining arbitration-eligible player. The agreement includes a club option for the 2015 season.
Butler set career highs with a .318 average, 189 hits, 69 walks and a .388 on-base percentage last year.
Kansas City announced the deal Saturday night.
